The Good Deed Project Day 1

Listen more, talk less.
These days we are all just waiting for our turn to talk, the problem is we are not really listening to what is being said to us, and we may very well need to. Maybe someone is telling us about their day, or giving us directions, or advice, the point is we are often so caught up in our own thoughts we have not made any room in the conversation for anyone elses. Today do yourself and those around you a favor and listen more and talk less. You might be amazed at what you hear or what you learn when you shut up and listen. This not only applies to people but life as well. Sometimes life is making a very clear point but you are so blinded by yourself you cannot hear/see the reality before you.

  2. Today I took the time to listen, to those around me and to nature, and to myself. It’s amazing the things you learn when you shut up. Today I took time with a family member, normally a man of few words, especially words that really let you know how he feels. Lately some things had been bothering him and upon a conversation between the two of us he really opened up and talked about the things that had been bothering him. He also stated that upon his frustrations, what bothered him most was that he felt like he had no one that he could express his opinions to, which is also another reason that he keeps so “quiet”, and therefore frustrated. In this conversation, good, bad, or indifferent I just listened, and passed no judgment, because I felt that more than anything else that is what he needed, an open forum to release the negativity. We all have things in our lives that bother us and it’s important to have people we can “vent” to in order to release that negative energy, otherwise it just festers and grows and wears us down. I am lucky in life to have friends willing to listen to my trivial day to day ranting and I am eternally grateful for them. For without them I would be a raging mess. Sometime you have no idea how much it means to people when you offer them an open ear and no judgment.
